This
event was run by Manchester City Council's Valuing Older
People and began onSaturday 16th September with a wider
range of activities, partners, events and organisations
involved. There were a number of groups putting on activities

The Carers (Equal
Opportunities) Bill 2004 became an Act on Thursday 22nd July
2004. Labour MP Hywel Francis, whose son Sam suffered from
Down’s syndrome before his death at the age of 17, introduced
“Sam’s bill” as a private member’s
bill in January 2004.
The Act is designed primarily to ensure that Carers are given
more chances to lead a better life.Useful links: Carers

The Act has not
been published yet, but the Bill, with the same text, can
be found on the Government's
website.
Manchester
Carers Forum Tenth Anniversary Celebrations
Manchester Carers
Forum celebrated its 10th Anniversary in 2003. We made a major
celebration of the event with a reception at Manchester City
Art Gallery, where music was provided by students from The
Royal Northern College of Music and guests danced to the sound
of the Abacus Jazz quartet. The Deputy Lord Mayor and a number
of politicians and officers from Manchester City Council and
the South Manchester Primary Care Trust joined with Carers
from Manchester to celebrate this important anniversary.
At our celebration
in October we had the chance to get our glad rags on and make
the most of an occasion when we flagged up the work in which
Manchester Carers have been engaged in for so many years.
Here
are some pictures of the night!
